Colour schemes

Just making a post to see if I get any comments on the layout, colour palette and general style of this blog. A few of the text colours need altering, I think, still not happy with some of the mouseover colours.

Will be working on it whenever I get the time. Sometime soon, I hope.

Summertime, exam results and wine . . .

So here we are, at the end of another year. I'm sitting in a university computer lab, wondering what the heck to write here beyond the obvious. My exam results, huh?

Well, that's something of a story that's still ongoing.

Based on the time that last year's results were released, and a communique from someone who is supposed to be in charge of releasing our exam results this year, we all expected the exam results to be released last Wednesday at approximately 5pm. Now the sacred hour approached and we were all nervously awaiting the fruits of our labour. 5pm, 6pm . . . 8pm. No results. Well, no system is infallible we told ourselves. Besides, it was only our assumptions that lead us to believe we'd be getting them then anyhow.

The following day, it was heard that the aforementioned person in charge of pressing the Enter key or whateveritis that they do had fallen ill. No results that day, fair enough. The tension was getting to people, naturally, and we all eagerly/nervously awaited the Friday. And that day dawned, with most people receiving their results around noon.

When I say "most people", I mean "everyone barring myself". The hours dragged by with my nerves growing increasingly frayed around the edges, but no results materialised.

I think the word "bugger" sums up my reactions quite nicely. It's now Saturday afternoon and in all likelihood I'm not going to hear anything until Monday. Despite the rest of my coursemates having already received their results.

Bugger.

Raptr! And Twitter!

Raptr is probably the best online gaming client I've seen in a good while. The founder of this piece of software was the co-founder of Xfire, and given my personal dislike for Xfire (and new newfound love for Raptr) I can't help but think he basically found something better to work with.

And here's my Twitter page, not that I do a lot with that apart from track a couple of webcomic artists and the odd game developer.

This is where I link to all of the projects I'm involved in. You'll notice all of them revolve around the game known as Warhammer 40,000, which is a game I've played for over a decade now and is probably the thing which made me into the geek I am today.

Warhammer End-Game - a fan-made expansion to the Warhammer 40k universe - currently dead in the water due to a lack of project members.

Mods for Dawn of War, a sci-fi RTS title by Relic Entertainment:

The Kabal of Evil (a Dark Eldar modification).

The Firestorm over Kronus and Kaurava modification for fans of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game (often contracted to 'Warhammer 40k' or even just '40k'). You can find the FoK forums here.

The Battlefleet Gothic total conversion, based on the specialist game for Warhammer 40k of the same name.

The Exiled Union modification which expands upon the Tau race present in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Currently on hold as both myself and the other mod lead are occupied with other projects.

The Tyranid Painter/Hive Mod modification which brings Tyranids into the Dawn of War Currently on hold as I am occupied with other projects, though I have been working on conceptual design for this mod of late.

The Depth of Heresy modification.

The Forgotten Legions mod - again, currently on hold as I'm occupied with other projects.

NaNoWriMo 2009

Simply put, I've decided to take part in the National Novel Writing Month, which takes place from the 1st to the 30th of November. You can track my progress by following the following crude and inelegant HTML link:

NaNoWriMo profile (yes, I used Gorb again. For consistency's sake, I suppose, that and calling myself "Sean" is about as stupid as calling myself "John". "Sean" is the Gaelic Irish form of "John", by the by).

Yeah, there aren't any words up on there yet. That's cos I'm working offline, beavering away. Seriously, what work would I get done whilst connected to the Internet? Less than none, yup.

On another note, modding has picked up for both the Battlefleet Gothic Mod and the Dark Eldar Mod for Dawn of War: Soulstorm; a game I've played for a coupla years and modding for almost as long. I now have an edited (updated, new, whatever) Profile in my latest bid to describe myself to the masses who come by this indescribably small site.

Things learned:

When they say "separate entries with a comma" they mean "we interpret your commas as spaces and will divide your nice neat paragraphs into short and often-confusing phrases".

Ho-hum.

A manic time

I finally did one of the things I said I'd do about a year ago, and got a blog. I mean, I've got various places I can write down my thoughts and generally ramble about my life, but nothing permanent like this.

Go me, woohoo. I have left my mark on the Internet!

In other words, life is manic. University is time-consuming, modding and moderating is also time-consuming. I also have a real life I should be seeing to, rather than writing on here. But hey, I need somewhere I can just splurge occasionally. And this is that place.
